Andrew, have you read over the statement of faith on the evangelicalarminians.org website? What did you think of it?

I would encourare you to look at some good Arminian material. One book from an Arminian point of view that is well known for presenting both sides fairly is *Grace, Faith, and Free Will: Contrasting Views of salvation: Calvinism and Arminianism* by Robert E. Picirilli. There are of course many more books, but that is a good basic one that is compelling for the Arminian position. I'd also suggets that you check out our website, where you can find links to many more internet resources for Arminian thought: http://evangelicalarminians.org/ .

BTW, I think you are right that Calvinism's stance is contradictory.

May God bless you as you consider the issues.

Hey bro! Glad to hear your feedback! Married life is great!

As for your thoughts, I don't disagree with you at all. I certainly didn't mean to suggest that Calvinism teaches that God's grace isn't available to all, or that man doesn't have a will. I only intended to contrast it with other views.

Hello brother. How's married life?

Just a few quick comments about definitions concerning Calvinism (or the doctrines of grace if you don't want an -ism). :)

I would be careful with how you represent this view by contrasting it with a view that says that man has a will. The doctrines of grace say that the man does have a will, it just is in bondage or is dead in trespasses and sins.

My other main thought is that these doctrines would also affirm that God's grace is available to all. Another popular way to say it (in relation to Limited Atonement) is that Christ's blood is sufficient to cover everyone's sins and efficient in saving the elects' sins. So, we do offer God's grace to all, and yet (as you know and are seeking to state) God will definitely draw His chosen ones to Himself.

I'm glad that you are just searching the Scriptures- I've been edified in reading the blog.

You hit it on the nose my brother. It is real important to evaluate things against the Word of God, and do so "before God" asking Him to open your eyes to see wondrous things from His Word (Ps 119). Don't just sign up for an "ism." Plus, afterall, you'll be much better off just using Scriptural terms, so you accurately express and end up more clearly understanding the truths. Also, it seems flaming words (in a fleshly sense) go hand-in-hand with identifying people as "ists." There is one body, and we are called to walk accordingly (Eph 4).
I again encourage you in your earnestly, patiently, prayerfully, humbly studying to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth!

Wise words from a wise man of God.

I don't know what's up with the time stamps around here, but that 2 in the morning is definitely wrong. I was most definitely long-unconscious by that hour last night!

There's another comment I want to make about your point 3, but I want to meditate on it some more, and possibly turn it into another entry. Stay tuned!

Brother Andrew.

Glad to see you digging in the Word of the living God!

Can I give 4 simple recommendations:
1. Be sure it is not a mere intellectual exercise (I have not sensed this in what you have written, but thought I'd pass it on as a warning)
2. Study to find what the Bible teaches... i.e., to see what each passage is teaching - what is the writer's point.
3. Avoid talking about "ism's" or categorizing people as "ist's"
4. Don't make it your habit to study the Word at 2 in the morning as I note in these posts!

Ok, make it 5:
5. Realize that it's going to take work and time to grasp things... Let the Lord be your teacher... according to His timing.

Rejoicing in a living Christ,
Bruce

Nice collection of verses, and very fast. The only one that made me scratch my head as to why you included it was Rev. 7:14. Care to comment?
